Modelling agricultural land abandonment in a fine spatial resolution multi-level land-use model: An application for the EU

In the majority of EU Member States, agricultural land is expected to decrease not only due land-use changes in favour urban expansion and afforestation but also abandonment processes. The knowledge on location extent relevant for estimating local external effects adapting policy interventions. Currently, multi-level models are able capture determined processes demand-driven redevelopment. However, much more difficult because its ambiguous definition lack data spatial distribution. This paper presents a method explicitly model as choice disinvestment, which turn embedded utility-based modelling framework that projects UK. Validation exercises using observed distribution abandoned farmland show proposed allows with acceptable accuracy.
